Free Class: Beginning Pen & Ink

with Watercolor via ZOOM

July 29, 2020

10 am to 12:30 pm PST

(log on from 9:30 am)

This is the class many of you have been asking for. It will start at the very beginning, a very good place to start! We’ll consider drawing concepts where I teach you how to see like an artist and translate shapes into your own line drawings on the page. (art element: lines and shapes) We’ll progress from there to work up our drawings with ink and consider ways to add dimension to our subject (art elements: value and form) And we’ll add watercolor to our work while exploring all the properties of the medium that make it so unpredictable and wonderful. (I’ll make it less unpredictable for you!) This class will use the Rose as a vehicle for working with contour lines to create turning petals which you can use when you draw/paint other botanical objects, i.e. leaves, that also are not flat but turn in lovely ways.

I’M ENCOURAGING EARLY SIGN UP FOR THIS FREE CLASS. See SUPPLIES LIST for this class WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM USUAL.

Watercolor Tuesdays

In-Studio (in person)

Tualatin, OR

Mornings 9 am to Noon

$30/class

Afternoons 1 pm to 4 pm

$30/class

Tuesday classes in Tualatin run back-to-back in July and then every-other-week starting in August. Location: Angie's home Studio.

Whatever your level or starting point, I will take you to the next level whether you are a beginner or more advanced student. Classes are project based with step-by-step instruction and lots of demonstrations to help students complete their work with joy. Often a frameable piece of art is the result at the end of the process.  Students bring their own supplies or use some of mine for a small materials fee.

Because of COVID-19, we will be using best practices for safety. If you are sick or have any symptoms that indicate you may become sick, please do not attend class. A refund will be issued. If my health comes into question, I will cancel classes. When we are together at the studio, we will observe social distancing, so no crowded table groups. I will only take a maximum of 6 students per session unless the weather looks to be very warm and there is an option to expand tables on to the outside deck. Registrations will be on a "first come" basis.

If interested, contact Angie for availability at 503-705-9193.

This is a true Beginning Watercolor painting class with Pen & Ink. We will work on all kinds of basic skills including basic drawing guidelines for seeing shapes and lines and how to get them from your eye/mind onto the paper. We'll go over the properties of the paint, and basic techniques for laying down paint including wet-into-wet and wet-into-dry applications and how to know when to use each. We will cover what it means to glaze and how to do it. You'll gain a good understanding of your materials (including brushes) and begin to gain control over this most fabulous of paint mediums (okay, I'm biased!) We  will also cover basic pen techniques both modern and traditional. You will gain understanding of how and when to use pen in your artwork. Each class will give you skills that you can build on in the next one.

Sign up at Eventbrite.com or via PayPal or Venmo for any 4-date series (4 classes per month) that interests you and reserve your spot to be part of a fun and instructive class.
